1988 Mustang GT 5.0 Convertible
2013 note: Not a show pony, but great condition as a daily driver. Bought from
original owner in 1998, a friend who took meticulous care of it for its first 80K
miles. I put on another 115K, maintained it properly, and it gave me a smile
every mile. Rust free, always garaged in winter, rarely driven in rain.
I acquired a new daily driver last summer, a well-equipped Jetta that can hold up
to three grandkids, a major deal when three of ‘em are identical triplet girls!
I am retired, and find that on sunny days I more often choose to ride my 30 year
old motorcycle than to drive the convertible, so it was time to find someone else
to enjoy this 25 year old beauty. Delivered her to new owner with 195K miles.
Iola just happens to be the host town to one of the biggest collector car shows in
the country each summer. The new owner also owns a 1967 Nova 350 that he
restored recently. He flew me nome in his 1947 Cessna that’s as old as he is.
This pony should have many good years ahead of her. She’s reliable and ready
to rock and roll every time the key slips into the ignition switch. She sips a bit of
juice around town, but on the highway, in 5th, with the cruise engaged at steady
65 or 70, she’ll still deliver about 25 mpg. But ... who’s counting?
Every motorhead should own cars they love, not only for the driving enjoyment,
but for pride of ownership. Is this one practical? Nope. And that’s its charm!
Mike ... thanks for taking care of her until you turned her over to me. Tom, I know
you’ll not only maintain her, but improve her. I hate to see her go, but it’s
wonderful to know she’ll continue to be well taken care of.
